The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) is Austria's largest social health insurance: It offers protection to all 7.2 million insured persons in Austria — regardless of age or income. We do not carry out risk selection as with private insurance. Whenever something changes in your life — for example the birth of a child, illness or inability to work — the ÖGK is by your side!
Who we are
The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) is the largest social health insurance in Austria. Around 82 percent of people living in our country are currently insured with ÖGK — that's 7.2 million insured persons. The ÖGK was created on 01.01.2020 as a result of the merger of nine former regional health insurance funds.
What we do
These are the most important benefits for our insured persons:
- Health services: medical and therapeutic care in the event of illness - both with established contract partners with a health insurance contract and in hospital or in ÖGK health centers
- Benefits in case of incapacity to work as a result of illness (sick leave).

- Medicines, remedies and remedies
